making e-learning
interactive,
accessible,
& flexible.
My role as a designer is to organize user research, design,
and develop webpages and illustrations.
From InDesign, manuscripts are laid out and parsed to generate HTML pages. Using HTML, CSS and JavaScript, these learning activities are designed, tested, then exported to BrightSpace where they are accessed by students across Ontario.
I have worked on both, Elementary (Grades 1-8) and Secondary (Grades 9-12) streams for English, and French courses.
what
I designed and co-wrote 147 interactive e-learning modules for the Ministry of Ontario Education.
why
Based on market and user research, students dropped out of high school due to learning disabilities, lack of guidance counselling, and an extremely fast paced learning environment.
Our courses are developed for students who require accessibility needs, inclusion within learning disabilities such as ADHD and dyslexia, and anyone without an age limit to complete their Ontario verified highscool credits at their own pace.
how
1. Each learning activity is written by an Ontario verified curriculum teacher writer.

2. Using Indesign, Adobe Captivate, Javascript, and Angular, the manuscripts are parsed into HTML pages.

3. Using HTML and CSS, the webpage is enhanced. Assets, videos, and in-house banners are added.
Structure:
All learning modules are standardized.
Each learning module is split into 3 sections:
Minds On - Students are introduced to the subject
Action - Students are given activities to do
Consolidation - Students reflect on what they learned

Each grade has characters of that grade/age. We illustrated inclusive characters throughout the courses to develop inclusion within students who are accessing these modules. They appear in the reflection section and the banners.

Out of 147 courses, below are two examples:
